Knock Your Socks Off Back To School Sock Drive

2nd Annual Knock Your Socks Off Back To School Sock Drive

This was the 2nd year for my annual "Knock Your Socks Off" Back to School Sock Drive, taking place on Tuesday August 13th, 2013 at Bar Louie in The Gulch. I started this sock drive as the signature philanthropic program of my medical practice, The Foot And Ankle Healthcare Center. Last year (1st year) I collected just over 1,200 pair of socks for children and youth in the Nashville community who return to school without socks to wear. In addition to the actual sock donations, I'm very proud that the drive has raised the awareness to the fact that thousands of kids go back to school every year without the basics such as socks and underwear, backpacks and school supplies.

The socks are still coming in from friends and family of mine who live outside of Nashville. I've come home every couple of days to FedEx and UPS boxes full of socks at my door!! In this, the 2nd year, I have already collected over 1,200 pair of socks, therefore exceeding last year's total!!!! All of the sock donations collected at the event are handed over to The Oasis Center of Nashville for distribution to children and youth in the Nashville Community! If you missed it this year, you can certainly attend the event next year or mail in your socks!!!!

Here are some pics from the event:

Crepe A Diem

Crepe A Diem

Crepe A Diem has to be one of the cutest food trucks I've ever seen! I love the name and the graphic design on The Crepe A Diem Food Truck here in Nashville! I've featured Crepe A Diem on the blog before, but caught up with them again at a recent Musicians Corner Saturday at Centennial Park....Yay!

Savory or Sweet.....take your pick!

Crepe Complete is a specialty crepe with a Fried Egg on top...How cool!??!

Crepe Complete- Sliced Ham, Kenny's Farmhouse Swiss, Arugula, Sunny-side Local Egg

This, ladies and gentlemen, is a delicious Nutella and Banana Crepe!!

Delivered with a smile!

Look at all that great Powdered Sugar topping the crepe :-)

The Nutella....Oh the Nutella! The combination of the sweet bananas and the richness of the Nutella Hazelnut spread was fabulous! Forget KFC, this crepe is Finger-licking good!

You can find Crepe A Diem online at www.crepeadiem.com

You can also follow them at @CrepeADiem on Twitter to locate them throughout the streets of Nashville!

Jonbalaya Food Truck

Jonbalaya Food Truck

Jonbalaya is one of my favorite Nashville Food Trucks because of the food AND the Owner, Jon! Jon is so friendly and welcoming every time I come to his truck that I feel like I'm coming to a party in his own back yard. He plays great music over the loud speakers attached to his truck and this day he was jammin' everything from Prince's Diamonds and Pearls to 90's hip-hop - my kind of music :-)

If Jon's truck looks a little different to you, it's because it is..Ha! Jon's truck is decked out with a new wrap as a result of his partnership with Soy Vay Sauces. There is a very special launch event of the new Soy Vay Sauces planned for October 12, 2013!

I really wanted to try out one of Jon's new wraps featuring the Teriyaki Sauce so I had this Andromeda Bayou Burrito

Andromeda Bayou Burrito - Teriyaki Stir Fry, Wasabi Slaw, Siracha, Toasted sesame seeds, scallions. The stir fry is made with shredded cabbage, carrots, broccoli and cauliflower in a garlic herb wrap.

Jon even showed off the bottle of Soy Vay Teriyaki Sauce he used in this special wrap. The sauces can be purchased from most grocery stores

The Jonbalya Food Truck still has the traditional Louisiana fare, but now there are a couple of other "outer space" themed menu items as well!

Sweet Creations Pies

Sweet Creations

I was recently referred to Sweet Creations by a professional colleague who is himself a fan of these fabulous pies. In fact, Travel & Leisure Magazine recently named Sweet Creations Pies here in Nashville as one of the Top 25 BEST Pies in the Country! Wow, what an honor!

They are the only storefront in Nashville that exclusively sells homemade and gourmet pies to the public. They offer a variety of 3-inch and 9-inch specialty pies such as Pecan, Peach, Apple, Sweet Potato, Chocolate Chip and Jus' Pie (similar to Chess Pie).
Sweet Creations is the only store front in Nashville that strictly sells homemade and gourmet pies to the public. Sweet Creations offers a variety of homemade 3-inch and 9-inch pies, including our out-of-the-world tasty pecan pie, as well as apple, peach, chocolate chip, sweet potato and jus' (like chess) pies. - See more at: http://www.sweetcreationsllc.net/#sthash.l7aYCn7H.dpuf

Sweet Creations Pies come in 2 sizes - Regular 9-inch Pie size and these cute, cute, cute little mini 3-inch Pies! The mini pies are great as delicious single serving treats! This Sweet Potato Pie is just like a sweet potato pie a southern grandma would make.....Delicious!

I consider myself somewhat of a southern girl, but I have not traditionally been a fan of Pecan Pies. I know, I know, I know what you are thinking....how is that possible??? Well, it only took one instance of me eating a Pecan Pie that was overly sweet, gooey and kept getting stuck in my teeth to turn me off from ever wanting another one :-(

Let me just tell you that just ONE bite of this Pecan Pie erased all bad memories of previously mentioned Pecan Pie experiences...Ha! This one was fabulous! I don't know how they did it, but this pie is Perfection :-)

This peach pie is BANGIN'! The peaches are so fresh and perfectly sweet that I ate 6 of them (mini Pies) in a row ( I can't believe I just admitted that out loud...hehe!)
To my own defense, I rarely, if ever, eat Pie crust. I am all about the filling! So yes, I scooped out the inside filling of all 6 mini Peach Pies and enjoyed them......thoroughly :-)

One visit to Sweet Creations allowed me to understand why they are currently named one of the 25 Best Pies in America by Travel & Leisure Magazine. I will be back soon for a more in depth interview with Co-owners Barbara Toms and Herman Patton about how they started this Pie business. Barbara is a former Attorney and Herman "The Pie Man" has many years experience working in the food industry. They told me a bit of their creative journey into this business and I think it's something you would enjoy hearing more about too!
